Collins Bridge

(c1912 -  A view of the Collins footbridge which crosses the Yarra at the end of Gipps Street

It was a welcome addition as it enabled walkers easy access to Studley Park for an airing. As there are a number of people gathered and flags are flying it is obviously an official occasion, most likely the opening ceremony for the bridge. Collins was mayor of Collingwood in 1912/13. The large drain which can be seen next to the bridge still looks the same today, but most of the buildings in the background have now been swallowed up by the Salvation Army op shop and hostel. The Main Yarra Trail crosses the river on this bridge.
